Prevention of urinary tract infection

Urinary tract infections (UTI’s) occurs when bacteria primarily E.coli, invade any part of the urinary tract, particular the urethra or urinary bladder. Bladder infections, also called cystitis.

Many scientific studies have found that blueberries and cranberries are beneficial in fighting UTIs by blocking or prohibiting the growth of bacteria. It helps by discouraging bad bacteria from multiplying in the bladder, and in the urinary tract.

Research shows that blueberries contain high concentrations of antioxidant compounds with medicinal beneficial properties. Several studies conducted by Rutgers University suggest that polyphenolic compound found in blueberries called proanthocyanidins can inhibit the adhesions of bacteria to the lining of the urinary tract.

The most important dietary recommendations for someone who suffers from a urinary tract infection is to increase the quantity of liquids consumed. Ideally, the liquids should be in form of pure water, cranberry or blueberry juice.

Blueberries are wonderful for human immune system and they should be part of everyone’s diet plan.
