Blueberry and Alzheimer’s disease

Alzheimer’s disease is a late –onset, progressive, age-dependent neurodegenerative disorder. It is characterized clinically by the impairment of cognitive functions and changes in behavior.

There have been reports, that eating blueberries and other similar fruits like cranberries may improve the cognitive deteriorating occurring in Alzheimer’s disease and other conditions of aging.

Blueberries may help lower the damages of stroke.

Scientist suggested that the protective mechanisms are derived from blueberries-induced enhancement of memory-associated neuronal signaling and alterations in phopsholipase C activity.

They concluded that it may be possible to overcome genetic predispositions to Alzheimer’s disease through diet. Blueberries can help the brain and the body fights the seeming endless number of problems associated with aging.

In one study on rats, extract taken from blueberries reversed age-related decline in brain function. Blueberries may be the best anti-blueberries antioxidants of all.

The berries produce antioxidant effects, neutralizing cellular damage created by free radicals of oxygen and blocking pathways by which oxidative stress damages cells. They function as anti-inflammatory agents to preserve cardiovascular as well as brain integrity.
